Sacrifice For The Sunset | Landscape Photography Philadelphia

Have I mentioned that I’m not a beach person?  I’m not.  No, really, I’m not.

But while at a conference in Florida, we took an excursion to Siesta Keys.  Evidently, it’s the most beautiful beach in the country, so it’s something the out-of-towners have to see. We were in town for dinner and then told to head to the beach at a certain time to watch the sun set.

So there I was, traipsing down the path to the beach with my camera in hand.  Needless to say, when I crested the dune, it was a jaw-dropping moment that I’ll never forget.

Once on the beach, looking west into the Gulf of Mexico, the sun was starting to dip below the horizon.  The colors were vibrant! The oranges, yellows, and pinks seemed to flow together like the waves in the ocean rolling effortlessly to the shore.  With each click of the camera there was a different view than what was in the photo I took five seconds ago. When you try to capture the sunset you realize how quickly time flies by and the view was changing constantly.

I took it all in.  I savored the moment.  My focus was on the heavens, and not once thought about where I was actually standing…toes deep in the sand on the beach.  I may have headed to the beach that evening, thinking I’d be sacrificing my comfort for a photo. Any idea of said sacrifice soon vanished as I stood in awe of another one of God’s masterpieces.
